Meet Our Intern

Dear Doctoral Program Coordinator:

The Ohio Mental Health Counselors Association (OMHCA) invites you to nominate a doctoral student for its “Amy Eiler Leadership Assistant” position.  Named to honor the memory of an inspirational and energetic OMHCA leader, the Amy Eiler Leadership Assistant position is designed to fulfill a portion of doctoral students’ internship requirements (i.e., leadership/professional service).

Leadership assistants will learn all aspects of guiding a professional organization, developing skills in strategic planning, resolving conflicts, public speaking, organizing workshops, maintaining electronic communications, budgeting, and marketing. Interacting with a number of seasoned counselor educators and practicing clinical counselors, leadership assistants will gain a better understanding of the ways in which they can advocate for the counseling profession, especially for the needs of Ohio’s Professional Clinical Counselors and the clients they serve.

Leadership assistants will be asked to make a commitment to service from September 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016, agreeing to devote a minimum of two hours per week to organizational activities. Leadership assistants will be expected to participate in OMHCA Executive Council meetings, which are typically held via phone conference once a month and one face-to-face meetings in Columbus, generally at the All Ohio Counselors Conference (date to be announced.) Travel is kept to a minimum, and leadership assistants will be compensated for any travel related to their responsibilities.

To recommend a doctoral student for a leadership assistant position, please return the attached nomination form and other application documentation by August 15, 2015. Leadership assistants will be notified of their selection no later than August 22, 2015*.

Thank you for your time and attention to this service opportunity. If you or your doctoral student has questions, please contact me at
